The weather is getting warmer, the mood is getting better – so get out with the grill and let’s go. But not without our homemade herb butter…
Homemade herb butter – without any additives
At this point, many people will surely ask themselves why not just buy a ready-made herb baguette. Read the list of ingredients on the packaging – then this question has probably been answered. From adventurous preservatives to flavors, everything is in there. And it is precisely these things that we, as health-conscious consumers, can easily do without.
The herb butter is ready in 10 minutes and then only has to be chilled for about 1 hour to use it for grilled food, for example. If you want to fill your baguette with the homemade herb butter, you can do it immediately without cooling. She’s still pretty stretchable there.
Versatile herb butter
But we don’t just need the homemade herb butter to fill our baguette. We use them for meat, vegetables or potatoes. Now in May you can already get new potatoes. When I was growing up, potatoes (new potatoes in their skins) with butter and salt were a common and very popular dinner.
This „poor man’s meal“ has almost fallen into oblivion. But try cooking fresh new potatoes, mash them lightly and enjoy them with just the herb butter – I can tell you it’s simply wonderful! Sometimes the simple is the best.
But let’s get back to the barbecue and our baguette. The amount of herb butter is enough for 2 baguettes. To do this, simply cut the baguette at a distance of 3 cm (do not cut through!) and spread the herb butter into it to taste. Then all you have to do is put the baguette with the herb butter in the oven at 200°C and bake for about 8 minutes.
As you can see, simply making herb butter yourself is not witchcraft at all and tastes so much better than ready-made butter 🙂
You have a lot of herbs in the garden and don’t know what to do with them? Then try the creamy herb soup with croutons .
